Open Flemish Beach rugby Tournament - Zeebrugge, Belgium 5 a-side - Schools, Men's, Women's and Veteran's 22 - 24 June 2012 *****Winning team of the masters competition wins 1000 Euro***** Tournament information: This tournament is a good social tournament which opens on Friday afternoon with the school tournament. On the opening evening the organisers welcome the teams with a party on the beach. This is followed by two days of games with the finals of the Cup, Plate and Bowl taking place on Sunday. In 2009 this tournament was relocated to Bredene, near OOSTENDE, queen of the coastal cities. Close to the Royal Galleries, the Rugby pitches are based close to the Surf club. In 2010, 42 men's teams and 23 women's teams competed in this tournament making it a highly competitive but fun tournament. There will also be grandstands for 500 spectators around the main pitch. For 2012 the tournament has moved along the coast to Zeebrugge which is another lively coastal town close to Bruges. It promises to be another festival of fun and competitive rugby with the inclusion of the masters tournament which is a new concept from 2011. Area information: Zeebrugge is a vibrant port town boasting lots of bars/restaurants/cafes, shopping, beaches boutique hotels and evrything else that visitors could possibly need to enjoy a relaxing or fun packed break. Located just 80 mins drive from Calais, it is within easy reach of many major towns such as Bruges, Brussels and Lille. The transport links are excellent with the coastal tram travelling along the length of the Belgian coast and ferries entering Zeebrugge from various destinations.
