More information about Bruges:
A sports tour to the city of Bruges offers something completely different as it is blessed with amazing architecture, canals, tea rooms, cobbled streets and an Old Town that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site – all of these ingredients mean that around pretty much every corner is a postcard image waiting to happen.
There’s lots to do…
The city is quite simply stunning, and small enough to walk around on foot. If you’re feeling energetic why not hire a bike and explore the Old Town (or cheat and hire an electric scooter), either way it allows you to explore the beautiful streets around the city. When in Bruges you could spend some time trying to find the various locations used in the film ‘In Bruges’.
Another must do is to taste their cuisine which includes frites with mayonnaise, Belgian waffles followed by Belgian Chocolate, and then washed down with Belgian beer – sounds good doesn’t it!
As you might expect chocolate and beer are a recurring theme in the city and there are over 50 chocolate shops and lots of bars offering huge selections of beers – the ‘History of Beer’ museum offers three tastings as part of the admission fee to start you off!
The 13th-century Belfry, in the Markt Square is the main attraction with its’ 83m tall tower, offering visitors panoramic views of the city below. Its not just Holland that has windmills, at one time Bruges had 25 windmills surrounding the city however over time this has whittled down to four, of which two can still be visited.
Bruges as a shopping destination is varied with designer boutiques, chain stores and lots of lace shops.
Overall Bruges is a great destination as it offers a little bit of everything from culture, to entertainment, beverage and shopping.
