TRAVELLING TO THE EU - POST BREXIT

The UK exited the EU at midnight on 31 December 2020. There are many potential issues to consider and some that are specifically relevant to travel.

This page will give you some pointers and information to be aware of so that if you are planning a sports tour or have already booked one, your group will be prepared well in advance of the departure date.

There are several main issues that should be identified and actioned with most relating to British Passports and the way that the EU will view them in the future.

Information is available in many places on the internet however we always recommend using the official government website for clear and accurate up-to-date legislation/changes, that may affect you and your group.

The first thing that every group member will have to do is:

Check your passport

Parents/guardians should check their own passport along with their children’s passport to ensure that they meet the changing rules. This should be completed as soon as possible to alleviate any disappointment closer to the travel date.

British passports will need to meet the following rules on your travel date to ensure entry to the EU:

  • Your passport must have at least 6 months left on it at the time of travel.

  • Your passport must be less than 10 years old even if it has more than 6 months left on the expiry date, at the time of travel.

If you would like to check if your passport needs to be replaced please go to the Government passport check page which can be found HERE.

Please also give consideration to your travel insurance as your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) may no longer be valid. The EHIC card currently enables you to claim state-provided treatment following an accident or should you fall ill. It is being phased out and will be replaced by the UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). More information is available on the government website which can be found HERE.

All members of your group must have valid travel insurance before travel which must include the sport that you are going to be taking part in. Group policies can be purchased from most travel insurance providers.

Team Tours Ltd will update this page as and when we are informed of any official changes.
